Event Description

This is an online counseling session that will be led by Brandi Branch and Latonya Whitaker. This event will ask all 10 participants to keep their Zoom screens blank and to change their names to remain anonymous. 

Your Counselors

LaTonya Whitaker has been an advocate for helping individuals and families affected by sexual trauma since 2004. Having experienced such trauma in her childhood and the mental impact it can have on your health, she has deep compassion for those left with the pain and chaos that follows; some of which can be quite self-destructive affecting all of those around them. LaTonya’s passion is helping those who have faced such traumas to find their voice and speak their truth so they see the beauty in themselves and life. Through that release, she champions for people to create positive footprints as they move forward in their life. Since being in Japan LaTonya has worked with programs that counsel women of both childhood and adult sexual abuse as well as domestic violence.

LaTonya holds a bachelors in Psychology & Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters degree in Divinity & Pastoral Counseling from Mercer University in Georgia. She also holds a certification in Victimology from the World Society of Victimology and the Tokiwa International Victimology Institute in Mito, Japan.

Brandi A Branch is a Certified Obstetrical Clinical Nurse in the 374th Inpatient Operations Squadron, 374th Medical Group, 374th Fighter Wing, Yokota Air Base, JPN.  There she works in a 15 bed Multibed Service Unit where she supports 500 births and 1K patients. She also supervises nursing care for a 3 member team, mentors and enforces standards of care, patient safety, infection prevention, staff education development. Brandi also delivers expert medical care to neonates and executes unit process improvements and provides patient education.  

Prior to her commission, Brandi was a Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class, in the United States Navy.  While serving in the Navy, she was a general duty corpsman and became a sick call screener.  This allowed her to evaluate and treat minor acute patients independently with little to no supervision.  She later decided to attend training to become a surgical technician.  As a surgical technician, she held various positions which included being the subject matter expert for various OB/GYN surgical equipment use. Brandi has been deployed to various locations to include. Tarin Kwot Afghanistan, Bagram, Afghanistan, Djibouti Africa and Guantanamo Bay Cuba in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  Upon completing her nursing degree, Brandi worked as a civilian GYN Oncology RN for St Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL where she gained her certification in chemo administration and later became a Labor and Delivery RN for UF Jacksonville, FL

As a victim of childhood trauma and spending years caring for women, from all walks of life and studying the disparities in Black women/families. Brandi acquired a unique passion and forged a mission to educate and empower women and families through their life journey. To do this, she had to unpack and recognize that she needed to address her own childhood trauma, so that could assist and create a space for others to do the same and stop blocking their own way like she had been doing for years.
