Soul food is traditional African American cooking that originated from the Southern United States. Often known as “down-home”, “southern cooking”, or “comfort food”, soul food is an integral part of Black food culture and often evokes strong feelings of home, family, and togetherness (healthline.com). Meals often include collard greens, macaroni & cheese, fried chicken, black eyed peas, ham hocks, cornbread, gumbo, candied yams, sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler.
In celebration of Juneteenth, this soul food cooking class will introduce soul food to Japanese citizens and those from the Diaspora. This will bring a touch of southern hospitality to Japan. Executive Director of Legacy Foundation Japan, Co-owner of Soul Food House and Chef LaTonya Whitaker is teaching Creole Jambalaya!
