Soul food is traditional African American cooking that originated from the Southern United States. Often known as “down-home”, “southern cooking”, or “comfort food”, soul food is an integral part of Black food culture and often evokes strong feelings of home, family, and togetherness ( Meals often include collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, black eyed peas, ham hocks, cornbread, gumbo, candied yams, sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler.
